Alice Riegels Hobolth, known by many as "Sweet Alice" 95, of Dorrance St., Hamden, formerly of Whidbey Island, WA and Grand Rapids, MI, died Tues., Feb. 6, 2007 at the Hospital of St. Raphael after a brief illness, mother of William A. Kraus and his wife, Lynne Yeannakis of North Haven, Sylvia Sanders of Hamden, step-mother of Hayes and Violet Hobolth of Fowlerville, MI. Also survived by twin grandchildren, Julie Kraus of St. Petersburg, FL and James Kraus of New York City, many nieces and nephews in Michigan, numerous cousins in Denmark, Canada and the US, also family and friends across the US and around the world including Japan, Africa and Denmark. She was predeceased by a brother, Carl E. Riegels. Her parents Carl & Inger Steensgaard Riegels immigrated to the US in 1904. Alice was born in Chicago, IL, July 6, 1911. She was a retired Registered Nurse. She had traveled to Japan, Mexico and her beloved Denmark, to which she visited 5 times and was proud of her Danish heritage and spoke the language. She loved gardening, sailing, bird watching, music and children. Memorial service Sat., Feb. 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., Hamden.
