Obituary

Storrs- Allen W. King, 89, formerly of Meriden, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Windham Hospital in Willimantic. He was the husband of Dorothy Balkow King. Born in Meriden on February 18, 1919, the son of the late Malcolm L. and Hazel (Williams) King, he was educated in the local school system and graduated from Meriden High School with the class of 1936. After graduation, he attended the Pequod Business School until he was hired by the former Home National Bank in June 1937. He was a member of the original staff in the first branch bank office opened in Cheshire, CT. in June 1946. He retired on Oct. 31, 1986. After retirement he had been a volunteer at the Veteran's Memorial Medical Center. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe. He was a 72 year member of the First Congregational Church of Meriden where he served on the boards of Trustees and Deacons. He was a 62 year member of the Meridian Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M.. He was a charter member of the Tri-Town Golden K-Kiwanis Club and a charter member of the Y's Men's Club of the Meriden Y.M.C.A. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Donald and Constance King and Thomas and Karen King all of Ashford, CT, five grandchidlren, Erin King and her husband Torry Rocha of Willimantic, Ian King of Putnam, Noah, Danielle and Kelsey King all of Willimantic, one great-granddaughter Addison Rocha, one nephew and two nieces. He was predeceased by a brother Malcolm King Jr. and a sister, Barbara Oatis. Memorial service Saturday, May 17 at 12:00 noon at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev.Dr.Robert W. Clarke will officate. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions in Allen's memory my be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, 22 Masonic Ave., P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
