Meriden – Angel Luis Chaparro, 60, husband of 33 years to Nivea L. (Gonzalez) Chaparro, died on Monday, April 12, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 22, 1949 in Aguada, Puerto Rico, son of the late Clotilde Chaparro Rivera and Concepcion Galloza Orama. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, and was wounded in combat in the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart and numerous other medals for his service and valor. He retired from Atlas Container, formerly Westvaco and Weyerhauser, after 33 years of service. Angel was an avid Yankees fan and loved music, walking, and the outdoors. In addition to his wife Nivea, he is survived by daughters Deanna Lee Chaparro and Amaris Lysette Chaparro and her husband Brendan Kelleher, all of Meriden, as well as his siblings and their spouses, Pablo and Saul Chaparro, Carmen and Ramon Galloza, Milagros and Ramon Ruiz, Miguel and Maria Chaparro, Maria Inez and Samuel Valentin, Sara and Hector Ruiz, Carlos and Olga Chaparro, Maritza Chaparro, and Ana Chaparro all of Aguada, Puerto Rico. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Nieves Gonzalez of Meriden, two brothers-in-law and their wives, Jose and Rosa Gonzalez of New Britain and Alberto and Evelyn Gonzalez of Middletown, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ismael Chaparro and his father-in-law Jose Gonzalez. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, West Main St., Meriden. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden on Thursday, April 15 from 4-8 p.m.
