Obituary

Angelina 'Angie' Theresa Possidente (Marcon), 92, of North Haven, died peacefully on October 1st, 2017. Born in Lakeville on January 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Maria (Sebben) Marcon, who emigrated from Frassene, Italy to settle in the bucolic northwest corner of the state. Angie graduated as valedictorian of both Housatonic Valley Regional High School and of Teachers College of Connecticut in 1947, then began her career teaching mathematics, moving to the 'big city' of New Haven. There, on a blind date, she met the love of her life, Bernie Possidente. They married in 1952 and together raised six children in a yellow house on Lynn Terrace in North Haven, surrounded by extended family. She and Bernie were longtime parishioners and volunteers at Saint Rita's church in Hamden. Angie spent many years teaching math at the Polly T. McCabe School for Pregnant and Parenting Adolescents in New Haven, where she was an influential advocate for her students, helping them get the support they needed to complete their education and to raise their babies. Angie also loved spending summers in Woods Hole, MA with her family, tutored all fifteen of her grandchildren in math, and was a formidable tennis partner. She is survived by her children; Bernard Jr. (Deborah Recher) of Saratoga Springs, NY, Susan (Michael Good) of Durham, CT, Judy (David Kaufman) of Los Altos, CA, Karen (Richard Leibiger) of Durham, CT, Anne (Steven Santa-Maria) of Weston, CT, and Jan Possidente-Russo of Guilford, CT and by her grandchildren; Peter, Thomas and Maria Possidente; Jonathan and Rebecca Good; Jeffery, Rebecca and Alexandra Kaufman; Rachel and Emily Leibiger; Katie, Michael and Daniel Santa-Maria; Matthew Murchison and Richard Russo. She is also survived by her beloved sister Mary Stanton of Hamden, her dear brothers and sisters-in-law, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Bernie, brothers Jack and Peter Marcon, and sisters Tina Marcon and Rena Britt. The family is most grateful for the loving care provided by the wonderful staff of The Village at South Farms memory care unit where Angie resided, and for her longtime companion Pauline. She reminded us daily that 'we are not put on this earth for ourselves, but for those less fortunate'. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Angie on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita's Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Guest are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. There will be no calling hours. Gifts may be made in memory of Angie Possidente to the Polly T. McCabe Center, attn. Irma Davis, 400 Canner St., New Haven, CT 06511. Please indicate 'In Memory of Angie Possidente' in the memo.
