Ann E. Colombell

Nov 20, 1932 — Jul 22, 2026

Ann E. Colombell, age 93, passed away peacefully at Sancerre Atlee Station in Mechanicsville, VA on July 22, 2026, surrounded by her family. Ann was born in New Haven, CT to the late Adolph and Elizabeth Colombell on November 20, 1932. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine O’Connor of Hamden, CT, and her brother, William Colombell of Richmond, VA.

Ann graduated from St. Mary’s High School in New Haven and the Ohio Dominican College (St. Mary’s of the Springs) in Columbus, OH. She was most proud of her time serving for 25 years as a Dominican Sister of Peace. She later left the order and worked for Union Carbide in Danbury, CT, and then served as Principal for St. Mary’s High School in New Haven. She spent her retirement years in Brookfield, CT before relocating to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (Currituck Club in Corolla). She felt very fortunate to spend so many of her final years there in the beautiful Outer Banks with her cherished long-time friend, Judy Echols.

Ann, while not having children of her own, was blessed and extremely proud of all her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed hearing of all their accomplishments and enthusiastically offered her own tidbits of encouragement and advice. She enjoyed playing golf and loved her two dogs, Belle and Abbey.

Ann is survived by her brother, Tom, and his wife Mary (Ruther Glen, VA), her sister-in-law, Patricia Colombell (Richmond, VA), and her 13 nieces and nephews, as well as 37 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ann’s family would like to express their deep thanks to the staff of Sancerre Atlee Station for all the kind care she has received over the past 4 years.
