Arlene Alice Durley, 98, wife of the late Grant J. Durley, passed away Thursday, April 17 at Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire after a brief illness. Mother of Judith M. (James) Johnson of Bethany, and Harold D. (Maria) Durley of Bethany. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, and was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Sanford. Arlene was born in Naugatuck, CT July 9, 1915; daughter of the late Harold and Martha Krell Beecher, and had resided in Bethany for 75 years before moving to Cheshire in 2001. She was a bank teller with the Amity Bank prior to her retirement, and she was an active member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Bethany, having been a Sunday school teacher and auditor. Arlene also served on the Bethany Library Board. A Memorial Service will be held in the Christ Chapel of the Elim Park Baptist Home, 150 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire on Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arlene's name may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
