Obituary

Arthur Gertz, Jr, 83, of Hamden, passed away on November 26, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born in Torrington on January 15, 1927 to the late Arthur and Ruby Stacker Gertz. Arthur is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Grace Nazzaro Gertz; son Arthur Gertz III and his wife Jane of Hacklebury, AL; daughter, Linda Saars and her husband Dennis of Hamden; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Kenneth, and Gustav Gertz; sisters, Ruby Brayell and Linda Lauderi. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, William and James Gertz and sister, Lillian Centrella. Arthur retired after 25 years from Joseph E. Seagram & Co. of New York City, leaving as National Sale Promotion Manager. He had proudly enlisted in the US Army in 1945 having served with Company L 29th Infantry Regiment, occupation of Germany. After being honorably discharged he went on to serve four years in the Army Reserve and enlisted in the CT National Guard Co. A 1st Battalion 102nd Infantry, 43rd Division. Also a member of 118th Medical Battalion, New Haven then transferred to 1048 Trucking Co. Branford as supply service. He belonged to American Legion Post #88 and Elks Lodge #2224. A Funeral Service will be held at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Tuesday, November 30th at 10 a.m. followed by burial with Military Honors at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions in Arthur's memory may be sent to Harborside Healthcare Arden House, 850 Mix Ave, Hamden, CT 06517.
