Barbara M. Klementz of Annandale, and most recently Sterling, VA, passed away on April 18, 2026. Barbara was a woman of creativity, resilience, and boundless curiosity. She was married 56 years to her high school sweetheart, Capt. Robert Klementz, and was a supportive military spouse, embracing new experiences wherever they were stationed. After a tour in Yokosuka Japan, she single-handedly traveled with her three children through the Soviet Union and Europe before returning home to the USA. This sparked a life-long passion for travel which took her to multiple continents.
In Northern Virginia, Barbara worked for the Bicentennial Commission in 1976, regularly volunteered at neighborhood polls for elections, and had a successful 20-year career in real estate.
Barbara was an avid golfer and played basketball with NOVA United in the Senior Olympics. She was an active member of the Christian Science church in Springfield, and was also involved in various capacities with local chapters of AAUW (American Association of University Women), SA Garden Club and Ikebana International (dedicated to the art of Japanese floral arrangement). She loved children and animals, and enjoyed gardening, Bible study, sewing, and hand crafts.
Born in New Haven Connecticut, June 18, 1936, daughter of Frank and Louise Miller, Barbara honored her family history and was a member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She will be reunited with her beloved husband at her ancestral plot in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella Grasso Blvd., New Haven, CT. She is survived by her children, Lauren K. Harte (Bill) of CA, Holly K. Scott (Irv) of NC, and David Klementz (Shari) of AL, six well-loved grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and her brother, Richard “Dick” Miller. She will be missed for her strong sense of independence, spirit of competition, and her sincere desire to continue to grow and learn.
