Scholar, teacher, writer, and loving friend, Dr. Barbara B. McEwen, of Cheshire, CT and Professor Emeritus of Psychology passed away on October 18, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. Barbara was born on November 11, 1934, daughter of Martha and Herman McEwen in the Bronx, N.Y. Valedictorian of her high school class, she graduated Cum Laude from Hunter College, earned an M.A. from University of Iowa, and received her Ph.D. from McGill University in 1965. After working as an Assistant Psychologist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and conducting research at McGill, Tulane University, and the Southern Research Institute, she accepted an Assistant Professorship at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in 1967. In 1990, Barbara retired as a full Professor from SCSU but continued as an Adjunct Professor and author. She is recognized as the author of a major scholarly work, 'The Roles of Vasopressin and Oxytocin in Memory Processing', published by Elsevier Academic press. She is survived by two nieces, Jo-Anne Hines and husband Gary of Albany, and Linda Hayes and husband Milford of Schoharie, N.Y., 3 great nieces and 1 nephew, and many great great nephews and nieces. A celebration of Barbara's life will take place on Saturday, October 27 at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN. Friends and family may call from 8-10 a.m. An hour for remembrance will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven, CT immediately thereafter.
