Barbara M. Sorensen, wife of the late Arthur Sorensen, passed away after a long illness on August 14, 2022. Born in New Haven on January 5, 1932 to the late John and Helen Smith Contois, Barbara lived most of her life in Bethany before moving to Durham six years ago to live with her daughter. Arthur and Barbara had owned and worked together at Sorensen Transportation Company. She had an amazingly kind heart which showed in everything she did. Barbara was helpful, positive, and always found the good in people and situations. She had a love for animals and they had a special place in her heart.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Linda Russell & her husband Leonard of Naugatuck and Sherry Whiles of Durham; her pride and joy, grandchildren Kristine Pierce (Franklin), Scotty (Brooke) Whiles, Travis (Danielle) Whiles, Heather Whiles, & Kylie Whiles; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie & Cooper Pierce; and son-in-law, Scott Whiles. She was predeceased by her son, William Sorensen and her sister, Judith Beazley.
Private services are in care of BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Contributions in Barbara's memory may be sent to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation , 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
