Barbara Walters, 81, of Hamden, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 17, 2014. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 1, 1933 to the late Paul and Dorothy Barnes Whitcomb. Barbara will be remembered by her loving husband of 59 years, Charles Walters; sons, David of East Haven, Donald and his wife Tracy of Guilford, Carl and his wife Rowena of Hamden; grandchildren, Paul, Ethan, Noah, and Emily Walters; siblings, Franklyn Whitcomb of NC and Phyllis Kingsley of Richmond, MA. Predeceased by her daughter, Lynn Walters and sister, Joan Silvernail. Barbara grew up in Richmond, MA before settling in Hamden 50 years ago. Since moving to the area, Barbara has been a very active member of Dunbar United Church of Christ. Besides being a member of numerous different church groups, her favorite was probably organizing the Dunbar Apple Festival. She very much looked forward to her weekly Bridge games at the Hamden Senior Center. Barbara's family was extremely important to her and she cherished the time spent together. Friends are invited to visit with Barbara's family on Friday, June 20th at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Dunbar United Church of Christ on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be Private.
