Obituary

Bertha Gladys Davis, passed away Jan. 26, 2012. She was born in New Haven, Feb. 9, 1921 daughter of the late Joaquin Antonio Deis and Gladys Charleeta Freeman. She married Elder Vashni Thaddeus Davis, Sr. on May 25, 1947 at Oakwood College. She is survived by her sons, Vashni Thaddeus Davis, Jr. (Helen) of Waterbury, CT, Joaquin Davis (Evron) of Bridgeport, CT, Jonathan Davis of Manchester, CT, her grandchildren, Monica (Troy) Smith of Suffolk, VA, Shampain (Timothy) Ross of Richland, NC, Jordan Davis of Huntsville, AL, Matthew Prittchett and Marcus Prittchett both of Bridgeport, CT, Tammy (Ronnie) Woodfork of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Tanya Smith of Kansas City, KS. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Matthew Hobbs of Delco, NC, Amari Sabb of Manhattan, NY, Jason Thompson of Huntsville, AL, Jordan Thompson of Reading, PA, Todd Bass of Kansas City, KS, and Marquita Bass of Kansas City, KS. Bertha also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters Jean Lopes and Maria Guimaraes, and a brother Joaquin Deis, Jr. Bertha graduated with honors from Commercial H.S., attended Stone Business Academy and received an AS Degree in accounting from Quinnipiac Junior College. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Mount Zion Seventh Day Adventist Church in New Haven. Bertha was active on many levels of the Seventh Day Adventist Church community including Pastor's wife in Pueblo, CO, Bible worker, bookkeeper, Secretary of the Northeastern Conference New England Layman's Federation, church treasurer, and Sabbath School Superintendent. She loved young people and her family, and worked closely with the Naugatuck Seventh Day Adventist Church and at the time of her death was a member of Shalom Seventh Day Adventist Church in Waterbury. A service in celebration of her life will be Friday Feb.3, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Zion Seventh Day Adventist Church, 64 Marlboro St, Hamden with Rev. Robert Madden officiating. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 am prior to the service at church. Interment in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE, HAMDEN.
