Betty Golebiewski, "Mrs. G," beloved wife of 65 years to the late Stanley R. Golebiewski, passed away on May 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on July 9, 1932 in New Haven, CT to the late Carl and Marguerite Stagg. Betty was the third of four children; her siblings Wendell, Natalie and Alan preceded her in death.

Betty spent her younger years exploring New Haven and often entertained her children with colorful stories from her youth. A voracious reader, Betty often walked from her home on Edgewood Avenue to the Westville Cemetery, where she would enjoy a picnic lunch and her favorite book. Her fearlessness and sense of adventure were manifested in her stories of jumping from rooftop to rooftop on her frequent trips to downtown.

An intelligent woman with a gregarious wit, Betty had a gift for bringing and keeping people together. Not surprisingly, she had many life-long friends, including the "Group." The group spent countless hours together, Betty serving as leader and social glue binding the five families together over their many decades of fun and friendship. She was naturally gifted with creative ability, she enjoyed music, dancing, entertaining, and made all feel welcome. Also an astute judge of character, Betty did not suffer fools gladly. She knew how to read a room and the people in it and knew who was "full of baloney."

Betty was a "mom's mom," the kind that more than one of her kids' friends told her they wish they had for themselves.  She may have been a very busy mother of 7, but she always made sure each child felt special on his or her birthday, preparing whatever meal the celebrant desired. In later years she extended this to her children's spouses. Oh, how Betty loved her grandchildren. She took the greatest pleasure in cooking for and hosting countless celebrations, from family dinners to holiday gatherings and the epic picnics that marked the start and end of summer. Her scratch brownies, baked macaroni and cheese, eggplant parmesan, and spaghetti and meatballs are the stuff of culinary legend.

Betty leaves behind her much-loved children, David, Amy, Chris, Todd, Mark, Michael and their spouses Karen, Tom, Lisa and Michelle. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lynne G. Allgaier. Betty will also be missed by her 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Rachel, Caitlyn, Emma (Mike), Jake, Adam (Jill), Taylor (LiLi), Zackary, Joseph, Connor, Austin, Mikayla (Tim), Mikenzy, Mikenna and Evan. Five great-grandchildren; Genevieve, Wesley, Maddox, Gianna and Lilah, will also miss their Nana.

In addition to being loved by her large family and many friends, Betty is remembered at Meriden's Memorial Hospital for her many years of service as the "Sylvania TV Lady." She also served as an unofficial social worker, spending many an hour at patients' bedsides, keeping them company and chatting and offering an empathetic ear.

Betty's family is grateful for the compassionate care provided in her last days by the staff of Midstate Medical Center Pavillion E under the expert care of Dr. Shailaja Chikoti and Dr. Cynthia Kociszewski.

Friends are invited to visit with Betty's family on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Westville Cemetery, 661 Whalley Ave., New Haven, CT 06511.
