Carmela Malard

Carmela Malard, 99, of Hamden, wife of the late Edward Malard, passed away peacefully in her home on October 23, 2026. Born in New Haven on November 10, 1926 to the late Nicholas and Theresa DiGioia Tangredi.

After growing up in New Haven, Hamden became home for almost 70 years. Carmela was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s Church and Blessed Sacrament. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Clean” for her enjoyment of cleaning, Carmela also loved sewing clothes, making sure that both her home and her outfits always looked neat. She was a true caretaker.

Carmela will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Charlene Ruggiero (Philip Panagrossi); nieces, Joann, Elaine, Irene, and Maria; and family friend, Frances DeFonzo. Predeceased by her siblings, Nicholas, Bernard, Joseph, and Ann Tangredi, and Mary Velardi.

Her family would like to thank Carmela’s team of caregivers for the love and kindness they always showed, especially Viviana, Lisa, Carole, Marcia, and Anna; the Home Instead Agency staff; and the wonderful Affinity Hospice nurses, Lakeisha and Dawn.

Friends are invited to visit with her family on Wednesday, October 28th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church followed by her burial in All Saints Cemetery. To leave a condolence for her family, see obituary at www.beecherandbennett.com.
