Carmen Maria Montijo, 92, of Meriden, loving wife of the late Camilo Santiago, passed away on September 29, 2026, at Meriden Health & Rehab. She was born in Toa Baja Guaynabo, Puerto Rico on May 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Candido and Ramona Miranda Montijo. Carmen is survived by her children Hilda Santiago, Camilo Santiago, Yvonne Santiago-Duncan and her husband Michael, Henry Santiago, Edna Vializ and her husband Noel, Claribel Santiago, Freddie Santiago; her grandchildren Tamika, Shermaine (Stanley), Tamara (Nicholas), Nichole, Noel III, Kyle, Jonathan (Sarah), Stephanie, Nina, Camilo, Jason (Thais); her great-grandchildren Zachary, Jasmine, Yvonne, Josh-Wan, Nicholas, Kayden, Adrianna, Skyla, Aniya, Elijah, Mateo, Lionel, Lainey, Liliana, Madison, Zoe, Prince, Kiara, and Gabrielle, and her great-great grandchild, Clementine. She also leaves a host of extended family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her grandsons Ramon Santiago-Wilson and Moises Badillo, and 11 siblings.
Carmen will always be remembered for the love and devotion she gave her family. An amazing cook, she prepared meals for her family everyday well into her eighties and she’d expect that if you visited, you would eat. She was incredibly competitive over a game of dominoes and would be ready before you could start the car to go to play bingo or for a trip to the casino.
Friends may visit with Carmen's family on Friday October 16, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Avenue, Meriden. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 pm. Burial will be private. For online condolences, please visit www.beecherandbennett.com.
