Obituary

Carmine Scialla, 97, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2017. He was born on August 4, 1919 to the late John and Josephine Miliano Scialla. Carmine lived most of his life on Humphrey Street in New Haven, where he helped his father raise his six siblings after his mother died at an early age. After high school he joined the U.S. Army during WWII, where he went on to receive three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Once out of the service he became employed by The National Folding Box Company, where he worked as a shop steward in the union until his retirement. During his free time he enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and a diehard Yankees fan. Carmine was an admirable individual and a truly exemplary member of the Greatest Generation, always putting others before himself. He will be remembered by his sisters, Grace L'Manian and Jennie McLean, both of Hamden, and Frances Watts of Fountain Valley, CA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Scialla, Mary Villano, and Rose DeMaio; and by his faithful dog Max. Friends are invited on Wednesday, April 27th, to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 129 Edwards St. New Haven followed by a burial with Military Honors in St. Lawrence Cemetery. BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden in care of arrangements.
