Obituary

Carol Kemerer Edwards of Whitney Center, Hamden, CT died on February 22. She was the wife of the late Herbert R. Edwards, MD. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 11, 1901, daughter of Rt. Rev. Benjamin T. Kemerer and Caroline F. Kemerer, she was a graduate of The Mary Institute and Washington University in St. Louis. She and Dr. Edwards lived in the New Haven area for many years. In the early 1930s she taught at the Foote School where she wrote and directed many children's plays, an interest she carried forward to the 1980's when she wrote several plays for the Trinity Players of Trinity Church on the Green. Mrs. Edwards was an active volunteer in the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood of Connecticut, the Bryn Mawr Book Shop and the Travelers Aid Society. She was also a generous supporter of Trinity School in New York City, The Yale Divinity School and Trinity College. Mrs. Edwards spent many summers in the family home in Friendship, Maine and lived there year around in the 1990s. Formerly she served as a docent at the General Henry Knox Museum, Thomaston, Maine. She was a member of Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven and St. John Baptist Church in Thomaston. She is survived by two sons, R. Kemerer Edwards of Fair Haven, New Jersey and New Haven and David F. Edwards of Essex, CT. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Carol d'Angelo of Baiting Hollow, New York, Laura Edwards of Thomaston, Maine, Elizabeth Bunbury of St. Petersburg, Florida, Susan Edwards of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Kem Edwards of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, Mary Mather of Lyme, Connecticut and Sarah Feeney of La Jolla, California, and by 15 great-grandchildren.
