Obituary

Carol Brown Miller, 94, of Hamden, wife of the late Charles Miller, passed away on December 19, 2010. She was born on June 6, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Lawson and Carolyn Trautman Brown. Carol leaves two daughters; Maribeth Day of Springfield, VA, and Linda Frey of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Andrew and Gregory Frey, Jennifer, Kathryn, and Christopher Day; and one great-granddaughter Erin Frey. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Ruth Bogdanoff and Virginia Prendergast. Carol graduated from Manuel Training High School in 1933 and earned a B.A. from Mt. Holyoke College in 1937. Two years later she married her husband with whom she spent 47 wonderful years. She has been a parishioner of Spring Glen Church since moving to Hamden in 1950. Carol was a member of the choir, active in and an officer of the Women's Fellowship, she taught children's Sunday School, was co-founder and long-time program coordinator of the Open Door program for seniors. She was an active member of PEO for 25 years, holding several offices including scholarship chair and devotional leader. She was active in the Mt. Holyoke Alumnae Club of New Haven for 60 years, in which she held several offices and actively sought to include all alumnae in the area. The Loyalty Award was given to her from the Alumnae Club at her 70th reunion for her work with the local club. She enjoyed working with others and for others. In the 1950's she was a VNA volunteer and Girl Scout leader. Later she was a docent for the New Haven Historical Society. She and Charles loved to play duplicate bridge with several groups and she continued after his death.
