Caryl Ellis Johnson, 98, of 200 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden passed away August 31, 2004. She was born in Albany, NY and graduated from Smith College in 1927. She leaves three children: James S. Johnson, Jr. of North Haven, Mary Alice Frankenberger of New Haven and Joan Stone of Durham, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Her husband, James S. Johnson and a son, Albert J. Johnson predeceased her. She was an active community volunteer and member of the: Smith College Club, New Haven Hospital Auxiliary, New Haven Symphony Board, New Haven Badminton Club, New Haven Tennis Association, Elm Haven Well Baby Clinic, Leila Day Nursery, United Fund Board, Foote School Board, Jewish Family Service, Smith College Scholarship Fund (Pecan Chairman), Creative Arts Workshop, North End Club, Yale Art Gallery Associates, New Haven Lawn Club, New Haven Chapter of the Red Cross and Congregation Mishkan Israel. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Mishkan Israel Cemetery, New Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
