Catherine Matsagas, age 93, of Shepard Hill Rd, Hamden, passed away on Jan. 29, 2010 in St. Raphael Hospital. Catherine is the widow of Paul G. Matsagas. Born in New Haven, on March 9, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Louis & Rose Barone Mongillo. Catherine was predeceased by her daughter Aleathea Rose Matsagas Vibert and her brother Peter Mongillo. She is survived by her son-in-law James J. Vibert, Sr. & his wife Cynthia of Cheshire; her sister Dorothy Charters of West Haven; her grandchildren John Paul Vibert & his wife Stephanie, Nathaniel Vibert, Catherine Vibert & James Vibert, Jr. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Raphael Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at the hospital for many years as a Registered Nurse and was a member of the Catholic Nurses Association. Friends may visit with her family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Wednesday Feb. 3rd, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Feb. 4th at 11:30 AM in St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 North Brooksvale Rd, Cheshire. Her interment with her beloved husband will take place privately in Arlington National Cemetery in VA.
