Curtis D.
Andrews, Sr.
March 6, 1934 – July 21, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Curtis Dickerman Andrews, Sr., who departed this life on July 21, 2025 at the age of 91. Curtis "Curt" passed away peacefully at the Veterans Health Administration, West Haven, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 6, 1934 in New Haven, he was a lifelong resident of North Haven. Curt was the younger son of the late Clarence F. and Doris Davenport Andrews. Raised in North Haven, Curt exhibited from an early age a deep sense of family and community service, which he went on to instill in his own children. These values imparted by his parents and grandparents remained with him all through his life. Curt loved North Haven, serving residents in many ways. His zest for life and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
Curt attended Center School in North Haven, the Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I. and in 1954 graduated from Nichols College in Dudley, MA, majoring in finance and business administration. A veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served in England with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Following the Army, Curt worked at the Stiles Brick Company owned and operated by his grandfather, David B. Andrews. He went on to apply his business knowledge and desire to serve when he took over ownership of the Andrews & Blakeslee Insurance Agency on the corner of Church Street and Broadway in North Haven.
Curt's professional journey was marked by dedication and honesty. In addition to working as an insurance agent for over 50 years, he volunteered his time serving as a North Haven Fire Commissioner, Secretary of the North Haven Planning and Zoning commission, President of the North Haven Rotary and Trustee at Hamden Hall Country Day School. Curt was a member of the North Haven American Legion Murray-Reynolds Post #76, a 65-year Mason, Corinthian Lodge #103, North Haven and a 75-year member of the North Haven Congregational Church.
Curt is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jane Murray Andrews, son Curtis Dickerman Andrews, Jr. (Lara) of Hamden, daughter Kimberlee Andrews Moore (Scott) of Stockbridge, Vermont, and son Dana Davenport Andrews of North Haven. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Graham Davenport Andrews, and his dear cousin, Paul S. Davenport.
Jane wishes to extend her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Trini, the nurses, caregivers and all staff at the West Haven Veterans Administration, Heroes' Harbor Community Living Center for their support to her and Curt's exceptional care. Also, much appreciation is extended to Curt's very special "favorite" doctor, Benjamin Yeboah, M.D. of Internal Medicine of Greater New Haven.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 27 th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden.
