Meriden, CT

Cynthia Jane Eddy, 81, wife of George B. Eddy for 59 years, passed away at CT Hospice in Branford on August 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Loving mother of Seth Eddy of Meriden, Peter (Mary) Eddy of New Britain, and Sarah (Chris) Davitt of Jeffersonville, VT. Sister of Jon Hackbarth of Wallingford, and the late Philip Hackbarth and Susan Carlson. Grandmother of Chloe Smith, Cooper Eddy, Braeden Eddy, Megan Eddy, and Emma Davitt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Cynthia was born in Meriden on September 9, 1944, a daughter of the late Walter and Dolly Baker Hackbarth, and was a lifelong Meriden resident. She was employed in the office of Dr. Wallace as a secretary, and then at the St. Andrews Nursery School as a Teacher, where she was awarded "Teacher of the Year," and later served as the School Director. A high point of her life was spending time at Camp Claire where she was a camper, counselor, and director. She was also an employee of the Mountainside Outing Club, where she made many lifelong friends and touched many hearts. Cynthia was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church and served as a Deaconess, enjoyed the spirit of the “Merry Mates,” and always looked forward to serving hungry souls for the May breakfast. She and George were inaugural members of the Castle Craig Players, and she volunteered in the Meriden Public Schools, was a Cub Scout Leader, a Girl Scout Leader, and a Camp Meribrite counselor. She was an avid camper who loved spending time outdoors with her family and friends. She had a keen interest in your life and taught many how to laugh, love, and care for others above yourself. She will be dearly missed. Love you Nini!
