Obituary

David Paul Cain, of Hamden, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 29, 2017 at the age of 88. David was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 14, 1928. He grew up on a farm in Economy, Indiana. He attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. After graduating from college, he served in the Army during the Korean War. After returning home from the war, he lived in New York City for several years before moving permanently to Hamden, CT. As an enthusiastic traveler, he has painted and photographed throughout Europe, Greece, the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and the United States. He taught art and photography in Mexico City, Costa Rica, and Connecticut. Mr. Cain was a member of the Hamden Art League and loved to teach painting classes there. Many of his students had been with him for years. He often said his students had become his colleagues and friends. Mr. Cain is survived in death by his nieces; Janice Janitz, Patricia Ringer and Cheryl Smith, his nephews; Richard Wall, Alan Boner, and Rex Boner. He is preceded in death by his longtime friend, Joe Nista, and his sisters, Esther Wall and Priscilla McDougall. Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday, April 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
