Dexter Wheelock Cheney, of 36 Forest Court South, Hamden, died March 27, 2009, of heart failure at his home. He was the husband of Caroline Lane Cheney. A son of the late Dr. Charles B. and Frances W. Cheney, he was born in New Haven on July 26, 1948. He attended Foote School in New Haven, Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA, and Taft School in Watertown, CT. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1971 with a B.A. in Psychology. He then joined the stock brokerage firm of White, Weld, and after undertaking business studies at New York University, he took a position at the firm's New Haven office. During his long career as a New Haven stock broker, he was associated with various firms in addition to White, Weld, including Tucker Anthony, Paine Webber, and Dean Witter. Dexter Cheney loved the waters of the Caribbean, avidly followed sports, and possessed a wry wit. He was immensely proud of his son, Benjamin Wheelock Cheney, of Wallingford.Mr. Cheney leaves three brothers and a sister: Benjamin Lawton Cheney of Rochester, MN, Charles Clark Cheney of Bethesda, MD, Timothy Wheelock Cheney of Walpole, ME, and Anne Austin Cheney, of Hamden. Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Church on the Green, New Haven on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
