Obituary

Dilys Jean Shove, age 88, passed away on September 28, 2013, at the Paradigm Healthcare facility in West Haven. Jean was born in Cardiff, Wales on June 8, 1925 to Anne Thomas Orchard and Ernest Orchard. A survivor of the World War II blitz and ensuing turmoil, Jean met her future husband, Norman R. Shove, a quartermaster in the United States Merchant Marines, in Cardiff, Wales, in 1945. She left her beloved country in 1946 to come to the United States to marry her husband. The couple lived in West Haven for the 56 years of their marriage. Jean devoted her life to her husband and family. She worked as a lunch aide for the West Haven schools. She loved to promenade with her husband along the West Haven beaches, chatting with friends and neighbors. She liked to read. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and donated her handiwork to the Milford Hospital and Hospice of Branford. She was known for her wry sense of humor. Jean is survived by her son, Norman K. Shove, her daughters, Shirley Sisson, Pamela Hunter, grandchildren, Edwin and Jennifer Sisson, daughter-in-law, Susan Hathaway, and son-in-law, Douglas Hunter. She is predeceased by her husband, her brothers, Grenville and Kenneth, and her parents. Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Paradigm staff for their excellent care and concern. Friends may visit with her family on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at BEECHER AND BENNETT-TAYLOR Funeral Home, 410 Campbell Avenue, West Haven and may attend her Memorial Service at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the First and Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 89 Center Street, West Haven. Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 450 George St. New Haven, CT 06511.
