Obituary

Dorothy Stahlschmidt, 97, died peacefully July 6, 2016 at Gladeview Rehabilitation Center in Old Saybrook. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 3, 1918. At the age of two, she moved to Hamden, CT, with her late parents, Will and Pauline Stahlschmidt. Dot resided on Central Avenue in the Spring Glen section of Hamden for 88 years, before moving to assisted living in East Haven. She graduated from Hamden High School in 1936 and from Stone Business College in 1938. After graduation from Stone, she went to work in the secretarial pool of United Illuminating, where she worked until her retirement in 1983. She was very proud of the fact that, when she retired, she was the executive secretary to the president of UI. A lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Dot enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Old Lyme, where she always had a beautiful flower garden. She is survived by her niece, Kristin Lambert and her husband Brian of Niantic, CT, and nephew William Stahlschmidt and his wife Linda of Gilman, IL as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends may attend her Funeral Service on Tuesday, July 19th at 10:30 AM in Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, followed by burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make gifts to the Memorial Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, 292 Orange Street, New Haven, CT 06510 or to the Connecticut Food Bank, 2 Research Parkway, Wallingford, CT 06492.
