Obituary

Edith 'Edee' L. Lockyer, age 83, of Woodbridge, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2017. Edee was born in Derby, CT on January 5, 1934, a daughter of the late Roland A. Dahlin, Sr & Ruth (Dudley) Dahlin. Edee was the widow of Harvey F. Lockyer. She is survived by her sons, Douglas Lockyer of Middlebury and Donald Lockyer of Canton; grandchildren Brynn, Carly, Timothy & Nicole Lockyer; great grandson Brandon Young; her sister Carol McGrath of East Aurora, NY and several nieces & nephews including Rebecca Maeder Doll, Linda Dahlin-Marvin, Jeanne Caperton, Janet Lockyer-Wills, Dean Smith, Erik & Carl Maeder, Raymond & Richard Dahlin and Clifford Lockyer Jr. Edee was predeceased by her sister Charlotte DellaRusso & her brother Roland A. Dahlin Jr. A resident of Woodbridge all her life, Edee was an active part of her community as a volunteer, assistant and a teacher. She was a Director & Teacher at the Woodbridge Cooperative Nursery School for 31 years at the First Church of Christ. In the 60's she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, the Volunteer of the Year at the Woodbridge Recreation Dept, a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary in Woodbridge and a volunteer at the West Haven Veteran's Hospital. She went on to be a President of the Amity & Woodbridge Historical Society in the 1970's, a member of many organizations including the Milfordside Cemetery Board of Directors, the Homewood Acres Golf Course, the Connecticut Society of Genealogists Inc, the Bethany Historical Society, the Ladies Bowling League - Amity Bowling Center, the Advisory Board Senior Center Woodbridge, Massaro Farm Centennial Committee and was an elected member of the Woodbridge Zoning Board of Appeals in May 2015. Edee also volunteered at the Woodbridge Senior Center since 2009 every Tuesday where she was their Volunteer of the Year in 2013. Friends may visit with her family on Friday, March 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden and may attend her Funeral Service on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Church of Christ, 5 Meetinghouse Rd, Woodbridge. Her burial will follow at Milfordside Cemetery, Woodbridge. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
