Meriden - Edward W. Newton, 87, husband of Mildred M. (Florian) Newton, died Friday, October 13, 2006 at Mid-State Medical Center with his loving family by his side. A lifelong resident of Meriden, he was born September 2, 1919, the son of the late Charles A. and Iva Bowen Newton. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Alaska, where he was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Anchorage. He graduated from Bryant University and worked for many years as an auditor at Pratt & Whitney. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the First United Methodist Church of Meriden. In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by his son and daughter, Seth (Sylvia) Newton of Derry, NH and Enid (Richard) Band of Londonderry, NH. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Bret and Ross Newton of Derry, NH, Clarissa Moll of Glendale Heights, IL, Georgina Henker of Dover, NH and Priscilla Hofmann of Worcester, MA, a great-granddaughter, Fiona Moll of Glendale Heights, IL and a sister, Iva Sleeper of Minneapolis, MN. A graveside service will be held Monday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Meriden Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 2138, Meriden, CT 06450.
