Obituary

Edward C. Sullivan Jr. of Hamden lost his battle with cancer on February 23, 2011 at the age of 47. He will be forever missed by his wife, Sherry Boresen Sullivan, and his loving son Michael Sullivan and his wife Colby Fitzgerald. Ed was born September 23, 1963 to Eleanor Rust and Edward Sullivan. He graduated from West Haven High School. This past summer Ed and his wife celebrated 25 years of marriage. He loved working in his yard and spending time with his family. Ed touched many lives in a special way. He was a dedicated public servant and devoted many years of volunteer service to his community. He participated in numerous local activities; one of his most enjoyable being his 10 years as assistant and coach of his son's baseball team, Mix District Fire Department, and as a Board Member for Greater Hamden Baseball Association. He served as co-chair of the HHS PTSO, volunteering for many years for Hamden High After Prom events and served on the Hamden Board of Education from 2006-2009, where he served as Finance Chairman and participated in a variety of committees. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2009; most recently served as Planning & Zoning Commissioner in Hamden and as Vice Chairman of the Hamden Republican Town Committee. He was employed at Hammonasset Ford. Beside his wife and son, he leaves behind his in-laws, Joyce and Walter Boresen; his sister-in-law, Michelle Derderian and her husband Paul of New York; and his sister-in-law, Lynette Von Allman and her husband Eric of Wisconsin. Ed was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Eleanor and Carl Rust and his paternal grandparents Harriet Sullivan Zmudinas and Carroll Sullivan. He is also survived by his parents, and siblings: Cherie Greeney and her husband Charlie, Tina Burgess and her husband Jimmy, Keith Sullivan and his wife Tammy, Jason Sullivan, Christopher Hebert, and Daniel Sullivan and his wife Heather. Ed leaves behind many nephews, nieces, friends and co-workers. He will lovingly be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to always make us smile. A Funeral Service will be held at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Monday, February 28th at 10 a.m. Friends may visit with his family at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7:00p.m. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff of Medical Oncology and Hematology and Connecticut Hospice for the extraordinarily compassionate and professional care they gave. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, PO Box 185192, Hamden, CT 06518, which works to advance research, support patients, and create hope for anyone affected by pancreatic cancer.
