Obituary

Eileen Kripps Pommer, 85, of Hamden passed away peacefully on March 30, 2020. She was born on June 18, 1934 in New Haven, daughter of the late Hank and Mary (Coffey) Kripps. She was the wife of the late Ernest (Skip) Pommer for 67 years. She was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1952. The all-girls Catholic high school opened in 1946 on Greene Street in New Haven before relocating to their current location on Benham Street in Hamden. These early classes are known as the 'Greene Street Girls,' and it is a title of great distinction. Upon graduation, she became a secretary for some landmark Hamden businesses such as Plasticrete Corporation and Partyka Chevrolet. Later in life, she retired after many years working as a cashier at PathMark in Hamden. She was known for her keen intellect and sharp wit, often the mastermind of many family pranks over the years. It is only fitting that she was laid to rest on April 1, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Terry Lepper (Chuck) of Hamden, and Kathy Pommer of Wallingford, and her step-son, Skip Pommer (Holly) of Hamden; her grandchildren, Rob D'Angelo (Tracy) of Hamden , Ray Hilton of Hamden, and Ellen Hilton (Jonathan Hickson) of France; her great-grandchildren, Robbie and Rosie D'Angelo of Hamden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Sonny Kripps of CA. Additionally, she is survived by her dearest friend Terri Outlaw of FL, who was like a sister to her and her closest confidante. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law, Jean Pommer Vitale of Wallingford and formerly of Hamden, who was not just family but a lifelong friend, and her cousin, Patsy McCarthy Salvati of Trumbull, who was her first friend and greatest ally. Due to the current pandemic, the family held a private burial at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. A memorial service will be held at a later date when friends and family can gather and enjoy the many happy memories of her life. Donations in Eileen's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in hopes of helping to find a cure to this disease. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff members of Hamden Health Care Center, where she was cared for, and to Beacon Hospice Care who made her final days as comfortable as possible. Words cannot adequately express how grateful the family is for the many friends and family who supported them through these final years of her care, with kind and supportive words making the difficult days easier.
