Elaine O. Davis, 86, died peacefully at the Village at Kensington Place in Meriden after a year-long struggle. Her family is grateful to the staff at the Village and the hospice nurses from Vitas for the kind and loving care they provided to Elaine and her family during her final days. Elaine was born in New York State and grew up in New Haven, CT, attending Hillhouse High School, where she met her beloved husband and best friend, Richard E. "Dave" Davis. They married in 1953, after Dave returned from European service during the Korean War, and moved to Wallingford to start a family. They shared 51 happy years together there until Dave's death in 2004. Elaine—"Grammy" to her grandkids—will be remembered lovingly for her dry martinis and her drier wit, her famous hot-dog and grilled-cheese lunches, and the love and attention she provided to her family over the years. Elaine is survived by her sister, Clara "Garby" Rice; her children, Steve (Joan) Davis and Gaye Davis Puzycki; her grandchildren Naomi (Nick) Odell, Ryan Puzycki (Dorian Leary), Nadine (Dan) Caruthers, Joshua (Allison) Puzycki, Nicole (Kyle) Biega, and Molly Puzycki (David Wright); her great-grandchildren Jamison, Noah, Ashton & Brantley Odell, Johnny Passmore & Audrey Caruthers, Summer Becky Biega, and Jackson Puzycki; her in-laws Loraine & Larry Trudell and Morris Burr; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Beverly Davis, and in-laws Stillman Rice, Arlene Burr, and Kenneth & Barbara Davis. Arrangements in care of Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, Hamden. Elaine will be interred with her husband at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford in a private ceremony at a future date.
