Elaine C. Hume, age 81, of Cheshire, passed away on August 29, 2017 at the Midstate Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 10, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Peter G. & Rose (Post) Canaiy. Elaine was the widow of William H. Hume; mother of Robbin Ricci of West Hartford, Tracy Diglio & her husband Brian of Cheshire, and Scott Hume & his wife Amy of Hendersonville, NC; grandmother of Jonathan & his wife Sarah Ricci, Lindsey Choo & her husband Steve, Rachel Ricci, Michael Diglio, Taylor Diglio, & Madison Diglio; great-grandmother of Darren, Lillian, Jayden, & Sienna, and aunt of Karen Baxter. Elaine was also predeceased by her sister & brother in-law, Lois & Lawrence Rusconi. She grew up in Hamden, graduated from Hamden High School, where she meet her husband Bill, and later graduated from Bay Path College in Longmeadow, MA. Elaine started her career as secretary to the president of New Haven Railroad. In 1973 she and her husband purchased the Hamden Memorial Funeral Home. Elaine became a licensed funeral director and secretary to the firm, which they operated for over 33 years until Mr. Hume passed away and the funeral home was sold. She was a kind and generous woman that was always there to help, whether at her children's sporting events, holiday gatherings at their home, or any family or friend in need. She was a member of the Cheshire Woman's Club and the Cheshire Red Hat Club. Her funeral will be held from BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 9:00 AM, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Friends may also visit with her family on Friday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden.
