MERIDEN - Elmer Lee Wilkey, 90, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Miller Memorial Community. He was the husband of Sophie Rakesky Wilkey. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and until his retirement in l977 he was employed as a supervisor at Pratt & Whitney in Southington. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, HelenAnn Volpe of Portland, OR and Katherine W. and William Grussi of West Haven; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey C. and Shirley Wilkey of Astor, FL, Felix L. and Kay Wilkey of Evensville, TN, Michael O. and Petronella Wilkey of Hopkinton, N.H. and Robert J. and Phyllis Wilkey of Meriden; two sisters, Alleene Hill of Soddy-Daisy, TN and Clara Ruth Woodward of Battle Creek, MI; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Elmer Dean Wilkey; four sisters, Thelma Ballard, Pauline Harwood, Gusty Huskins and Caty Revis; two brothers, Archie Wilkey and Larry Wilkey; and a son-in-law, Joseph Volpe. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT. A private funeral will be held on Thursday.
