Eugene 'Gene' Gillen, 73, loving husband of the late Jean Tetmeyer Gillen of Old Town Rd., Cheshire passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 in CT Hospice after a brief illness. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Patrick Purcell of Canton, Wendy and Gerry Amenta of West Hartford, a son Peter Gillen of Cheshire, and 2 grandchildren Paul Amenta and Thomas Purcell, and a great-granddaughter Lindsay Amenta. He was predeceased by a sister Patricia Schmidt. Eugene was born in New Haven, July 14, 1936 a son of the late Hugh and Josephine Joslyn Gillen and proudly served in the US Army. He enjoyed tennis & golf in his younger years, a good book, and the Arts Place in Cheshire in more recent years. Gene was a avid Red Sox and UCONN Lady Huskies fan. Friends may visit with his family on Wednesday August 5 from 5-8 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN and meet at the funeral home Thursday morning at 10:30 for procession to Beaverdale Memorial Park for interment prayers and Military Honors at 11:30.
