Eugene Smith, Jr., 88, of East Haven, formerly of Jupiter, FL and Guilford, CT, passed away January 27, 2018. Husband of the late Ellen Smith. He was born in West Haven May 7, 1929; son of the late Eugene and Emma Somers Smith, and had proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Rochester and USS Mississippi. He was the former owner of the Madison Carpet Shop and a lifetime member of the Elks. One of Eugene's greatest achievements was fulfilling his lifelong dream of building his home on Lake Quonnipaug in Guilford with his own hands. Eugene was the father of Linda Smith and her husband William of Brookfield, CT, Susan Colrus and her husband Kurt of Leesport, PA, and stepfather of Michelle Riccio and her husband Richard of Madison, CT. Grandfather of William, Jillian, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Anjelica, and Joshua. His family would like to thank his caregivers and friends at the Village at Mariners Point and the WHVAMC Hospital for their compassion and support. Arrangements are private.
