Obituary

In New Haven, July 18, 2001, Fabio Sampoli, 49, of 108 Newton Rd., Woodbridge, husband of Penelope Peterson Sampoli, son of Maria Simonelli Picchio and step-son of Riccardo Picchio of New Haven, adoring father of Marc, Sara and David of Woodbridge and brother of Marco Sampoli of Florence, Italy. Born in Florence, Italy, March 7, 1952 and he became a US citizen. In addition to his complete devotion to family and friends, Fabio loved Greater New Haven and spent his life building it and its business community. He was CEO of Viola Audio Laboratories, maker of the high quality music systems. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce for 12 years. Fabio was president of InfoPlus, a consulting firm that also did special projects for New Haven's Science Park, for 5 years. Before that he held a senior staff position with Lehman Brothers. Fabio earned a Ph.D. from Yale University and a BA from Boston College. He was active on many boards of non-profit organizations, loved classical music, fine wine and good food; was a frequent author of economic articles and was a great believer in the goodness of life and people. A memorial service for family and friends is being planned for the Fall. Friends are invited to the Sampoli house in Woodbridge this evening, Friday, July 20th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450 or the International Center at Yale, 406 Prospect St., New Haven 06511. Following cremation, Fabio's remains will be returned to Florence, Italy. BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden in care of arrangements.
