Fern Margaret Arndt, 97, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2017. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada on January 22, 1920 to the late Hattie Matheson. Fern was predeceased by her husband, Paul Arndt. She is survived by her sons, Ronald and Roger (JoAnn) Arndt, both of Lebanon; grandchildren, Duane (Donna) Arndt, Tammy (Chris) Deojay, Wendi Arndt, and Gregg (Jennifer) Arndt; great-grandchildren, Amanda Gendron and Jasmine and Megan Arndt; and brother, Lee Smith. Fern came to the Meriden area at a young age and has lived here ever since. As an active parishioner of the St. John Lutheran Parish, she was a member of the Ladies Aide Society. Besides being a homemaker, Fern had been a caretaker for Mr. Howard Houston, a retired mayor of Meriden. She had enjoyed cooking. Fern will be remembered as a loving mother and doting grandmother. Friends are invited to visit with her family on Friday, September 1st from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A Graveside Service will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
