Florence F. McGovern, 94, of Filbert St. Hamden, wife of the late James McGovern, passed away at her home on November 15, 2009. She was born in Guilford on August 22, 1915 to the late James and Rosanne O'Reiley Fleming. Florence is survived by her two sons, James McGovern and John McGovern and his wife Margaret all of Hamden; grandchildren, Sean, Kathleen, and Patrick McGovern of Hamden, and Caitlin McGovern of Boston, MA. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Costello and her husband Joseph and brother, John Fleming and his wife Barbara. Florence grew up in Guilford and later moved to Hamden where she has lived for the last 61 years. She had worked for the Southern New England Telephone Co. as a comptroller, was a parishioner of St. Rita's Church and a member of the church's Ladies Guild, past member of the New Haven Lawn Club, life long member of the High Lane Club, and had been a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Friday, November 20th at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Rita's Church. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
