Fred Sakovich, 87, of 90 Fenway Dr., Hamden died at his home on March 22, 2005. He was a life long resident of the New Haven area. He served in the U.S. Navy durning WW11 and was employed by the Connecticut Company as a trolley and bus driver for almost 40 years. He was also a official of the Amalagamated Transit Union. He was very active in the Whitneyville Congregational Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee and committe member durning the past 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Lola Frey Sakovich, two sons, Stuart and his wife, Judy Lewis of West Hartford, CT and Wayne of Newton, MA, two sisters, Vera Markitan of Bridgeport, CT and Sonya Brodrick of Danville, GA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert Sakovich and Al Kuzim and four sisters, Dorothy Penkrat, Nettie Jetmar, Maria (Peggy) Niziolek and Olga Piper. Calling hours will be 9:30 a.m. preceding the funeral service on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Whitneyville Congregational Church, 1253 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT. Interment will follow at Whitneyville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Fred Sakovich to the Whitneyville Congregational Church.
