Obituary

Fay, Frederick Taylor Frederick Taylor Fay, age 101, of Elim Park, Cheshire, formerly of Seaview Ave., Branford and Yale Ave., New Haven, passed away in the Hospital of St. Raphael on Dec. 1, 2009 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of 67 years to the late Ruth Jean Lowery Fay, beloved father of June Fay Waddington of Darien and Louise Fay Despres of Westport; grandfather of Elizabeth Waddington Bernhardt, Heather Waddington Hanson and Frederick Leon Despres. Also survived by three great-grandchildren. Born in Hartford, May 11, 1908 son of the late Frederick Dexter Fay and Amy Ferris Fay. He graduated from the Syracuse University School of Architecture and the Fontainebleau American School of Fine Arts in Fontainebleau, France with a diploma in architecture. He took graduate courses at Columbia University. He was an AIA certified architect and worked on presentation drawings of churches, schools, and service stations for Mobil Oil. He also designed homes and home renovations. During the depression era, he worked on the railings of the George Washington Bridge for the Port Authority of New York City. He taught art and mechanical drawing for over 30 years at the former New Haven High School, Hillhouse and Cross High Schools in New Haven and Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge until his retirement in 1966. His great passion was being a watercolor artist and he taught watercolor at the Creative Workshop in New Haven and at Elim Park. Recently he co-taught with Esther Tompkinson, an accomplished artist and former student, also of Elim Park. Relatives and friends may attend a Memorial Service on December 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Nelson Hall at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Rd. Cheshire, and may attend a Memorial Service on December 12, 2009 at 1:30 PM in Spring Glen Church, 20 Glen Parkway, Hamden. Interment will be private.
