Dr. George Magrath, 96, husband of the late Miriam Phipps Magrath, passed away on September 23, 2008 after a short illness. He was born in Whitinsville, MA on August 22, 1912 a son of the late George H. and Sarah Bassett Magrath. Dr. Magrath leaves his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Willene Magrath of Georgia, and Douglas and Linda Magrath of Berlin, CT. His sister Ellen B. Magrath of Whitinsville, MA, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son George Magrath Jr., and three sisters, Edith Rankin, Helen R. Magrath, and Olive Burgoyne. Dr. Magrath had been the Superintendent of Meriden Schools for 19 years until his retirement in 1974. He was always very active in the Meriden community and is a Meriden Hall of Fame Member. George has always been sports oriented, and was an avid Red Sox Baseball and UCONN Basketball fan.
