Obituary

George Donald Steele, 93, of Cheshire, husband of the late Martha Jane Linn Steele, passed away on September 15, 2012 at his residence. Born on May 23, 1919 to the late George E. and Florence Steele. George is survived by his two children, George T. Steele of Enfield Ct. and Martha E. Hart of North Bangor, NY, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine Batchelder. George is a Yale University graduate, class of '42. He proudly joined the Navy during WWII and worked in the Naval Ordinance Laboratory. George also worked for Page Steele and Flag Company, the Office of State Fire Administration, and had been a substitute teacher in Durham, Cheshire, and North Haven. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Assoc., the Mt. Carmel Volunteer Fire Comp., secretary of Nutmeg Chapter QCWA, former secretary of New Haven County Fire Emergency Plan, and was an amateur radio operator for W1NFG. He was also recognized as the residential fire chief at Elim Park where he taught fire prevention classes and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cheshire. A Memorial Service to Celebrate George's life will take place at Elim Park, in Nelson Hall, 150 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire, on Wednesday, Oct. 10th at 2 p.m. Memorial Contributions in George's name can be made to the Michael J.
