Obituary

George E. Thomson, 93, of Southington, formerly of Meriden, loving husband of Betty Maxymillian Thomson, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2020 at Southington Care Center. He was born on May 30, 1926, a son of the late George and Edith Vaughan Thomson. Besides his wife Betty he leaves his children; George M. Thomson and his wife Leslie of East Hartford, Elizabeth Thomson of Coventry, Gail Gilmore and her husband Mark of Longmeadow, MA, his brother William Thomson and his wife Florence, grandchildren: Michael, Victoria, and Gregory Thomson, Heather Oatis and her husband Seamus, and Ryan and Jennie Gilmore, and great-grandchildren Lydia and Gracelyn Oatis. George proudly served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge he went on to study at Western New England College, receiving a B.S. Degree from the School of Business. He then went on to work for Northeast Utilities Co. for 42 years, retiring as Purchasing Manager. He was a devoted and active member of First United Methodist Church in Meriden, where he was a Sunday School superintendent and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a life-long Freemason and a member of the Y's Men of Meriden. In his free time, George enjoyed bike riding, golfing, traveling with his wife Betty, and spending time with his family. A Memorial Service celebrating George's life will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St. Meriden. Interment will be privately held at the convenience of his family in the CT State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to First United Methodist Church, 15 Pleasant St., Meriden, CT 06450.
