Obituary

Georgia S. Buckholz, 95, of West Haven, wife of the late Charles A. Buckholz, passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital on May 2, 2022. Born in New Haven August 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Stephen) Sambrook. Affectionately known as "Nana" by her friends and family, she is survived by her two sons; Richard Buckholz & his wife Diane of Ansonia, and Ronald Buckholz & his late wife Pamela of West Haven; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Randall, her grandson Ronald, and sisters Amy Barnard and Harriet Zarnetske. A resident of West Haven for over 73 years, Georgia was actively involved with her community. She was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit (formerly Christ Episcopal Church), where she was a member of the choir and a past Superintendent of the Sunday Church School. Before her retirement in 1995, she worked in the office of Dr. Murray Brodoff as a Medical Assistant. Georgia loved gardening and was a former member of the West Haven Garden Club. She was also a lover of art, especially painting. Paintings of flowers and birdhouses on her kitchen and sun porch walls were noticed and greatly appreciated by all who visited her home. Her strength, sense of humor, and positive outlook kept her going for all of her many years. Georgia's family would like to thank Grace Okwu, and any previous members of her team of home caregivers for their kindness and devotion.
