Geraldine V. Thomas

Geraldine Vernell Thomas peacefully passed away at home on September 8, 2026. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on May 16, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of Walter Richard Thomas and Zadie Bell Thomas.

Geraldine was a lifelong resident of New Haven and a proud graduate of James Hillhouse High School, Class of 1965. She continued her education at Stone Academy for Business and later studied Accounting with a minor in Information Technology at Quinnipiac University.

Throughout her distinguished career, Geraldine served as a Reference Librarian for the City of New Haven, worked with ManPower Staffing and firms in New York City, and devoted 34 years to federal service with the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Department of Justice in New Haven, where she served as a Legal Assistant.

Above all, Geraldine was known for her deep love for Jehovah and her unwavering faith. A devoted Jehovah's Witness for more than 66 years, she was a cherished member of the City Point Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in New Haven, CT. Her faith guided her life and inspired her service to others.

Geraldine enjoyed traveling, music, playing the piano, composing, singing, dancing, writing poetry and stories, knitting, cooking, reading, and sharing the joy of music with family and friends.

She will be remembered for her warm heart, creativity, integrity, steadfast faith, and dedication to helping others. Her life touched many, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bonita Melanie Hunter of New Haven; her niece, Patricia Thomas Alvarez; and her nephews, Philip Walter Thomas and Mark Silvers Thomas.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the City Point Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Compassus Hospice Care, Yale New Haven Hospital (St. Raphael's Campus), and Autumn Lake at The Willows for their compassionate care and support during Geraldine's illness.

Friends are invited to visit with Geraldine's family on Tuesday, October 6th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
