Obituary

Herbert John Hennessy, age 85, loving husband to Elizabeth 'Betsy' Smith Hennessy, passed away on August 30, 2017 after a long illness. He was born in New Haven on November 14, 1931 to the late Herbert and Katherine Keating Hennessy. In addition to his wife Betsy, he is survived by his sons Robert, David (his wife Tjin Hoa), and Paul Hennessy, his sister Audrey Goclowski, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. After graduating from Hillhouse High School, he completed his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Bridgeport, his Master's at Yale University, and a Sixth Year at N.Y.U. He served as Captain in the Army National Guard. He worked for the New Haven Board of Education as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal of Sheridan Middle School in New Haven. At the time of retirement he was Supervisor of Social Studies for the city of New Haven. He also worked for the Yale University Athletic Department, and enjoyed being a fellow of Calhoun College now Grace Hopper College at Yale. Arrangements have been carried out by Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, Hamden. A graveside service was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
