MERIDEN - Herbert C. Klockner, 89, of Meriden, husband of the late Gertrude Carlson Klockner, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Miller Memorial Hospice, after a brief illness. Born Nov. 12, 1917 in Meriden, Herb was the son of the late Philip and Helen Klockner. He was a life long resident of Meriden and was educated in the Meriden School System, graduating from Meriden High School in 1936. Herb furthered his education by graduating from the Tool & Die School in 1940. After working with New Departure and various other manufacturers, Herb became a certified tool & die instructor at Horace Wilcox Technical School, retiring in1981 after teaching for 20 years. Herb was a member of Masonic Lodge #77 for over 50 years and was also a member of the Retired Connecticut State Employees Association. Alongside his wife, Gertrude, Herb enjoyed many years at their summer home on Leete's Island in Guilford. They also traveled extensively and visited all 50 states, in addition to many Canadian provinces. Herb is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Stevens of Meriden; his granddaughter, Debra Stevens Troiano and her husband, Jason of Rocky Hill; and his grandson-in-law, John Fazzina of Meriden. In addition, Herb is survived by his three great-grandchildren, Stephen and Rebecca Fazzina of Meriden and Brody Troiano of Rocky Hill. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kimberly Stevens Fazzina. The family would like to thank all the nurses, physical therapists and staff at Miller Memorial for the care and compassion given to Herb over the last several years. Additionally, the family would like to thank his homemaker and caregiver, Karen Raymond, who went above and beyond. There will be no calling hours at this time and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
