Horacio Mercado, 86, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, after a long illness. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, on January 25, 1938, he was the beloved son of the late Francisco and Emiliana Burgos Mercado. In 1957, Horacio moved to Meriden, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and passion for the Yankees and gardening.

Horacio is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Rosa Pérez Mercado; their children, Rosa Rentas and her husband Angel of Meriden, Heriberto Mercado of Arizona, and Horacio Mercado Jr. and his wife Judy of Meriden. He was a proud grandfather to Stefen Mercado, Jean Carlos Mercado, Alec Rentas, and Coralyn Rentas.

Horacio worked for many years at the International Silver Company and cherished the simple joys of life, from tending to his garden to cheering on the New York Yankees.

Mr. Mercado's Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett – Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Avenue, Meriden. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
