Obituary

Ilidio Lopes Amorim, age 93, of Hamden, loving husband of 66 years to Belmira Leite Amorim, passed away on September 19, 2017 at Vitas Hospice in St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury. He was born on November 26, 1923 in Vilarelho de Raia, Chaves, Portugal to the late Joao and Maria dos Anjos Calvao Amorim. Along with his wife Belmira, he is survived by his daughters Maria (Sean) Hanley of Wallingford, Bela (Manny) Duque of Wallingford, and Grace (John) Sansonetti of Newtown; his sister Altina Calvao of New Bedford, MA; granddaughters Jennifer (Chris) Kelly, Melissa (Paul) Stensland, Juliana Sansonetti, and grandson Luke Sansonetti. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Connor, Jacob, Olivia, and Ava, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters Aurinda Sanches, and Teresa and Candida Amorim. Ilidio immigrated from Portugal to Brazil, where he worked in retail management until 1966. He then immigrated to the US, where he worked at H.B. Ives for 22 years until his retirement in 1988. He loved gardening, cheering for the Benfica and Chaves soccer teams, and most of all, spending time with his family. Friends are invited to visit with Ilidio's family from 4-8 PM Friday, September 22 in BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday morning, September 23, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ilidio's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
