Irma M. Leary, 91, wife of the late William T. Leary, passed away on April 28, 2007 while living with her niece Gail Piccola in Wewahitchka, FL. She was born on October 26, 1915 to the late Dana and Ethel Smith Macdonald. Irma leaves her daughter Georgia Nichols of Bethany, grandsons William S. Nichols of Bethany and Robert B. Nichols of Safety Harbor, FL, great grandchildren Josh, Jack and Spencer Nichols of Darien and Aidan and Dilan Nichols of Bethany. She also leaves her grand nephew Lee Piccola, and great grand niece Amanda Piccola of Wewahitchka, FL, niece Adrienne Macdonald and grand niece Laura Sims of North Haven, and niece Patricia Macdonald of San Francisco, CA. She was predeceased by son-in-law Spencer Nichols and siblings Georgia Ahern, Lyla Macdonald, Kay Sund, Hazel Gitzler, Malcolm Macdonald, and Elmer Macdonald. Irma, affectionately known as "Gom", raised her family in Connecticut until she retired from Savitt Jewelers in 1979 and moved to Florida. She always enjoyed doing the Charles Preston Crossword Puzzles and after her retirement took up painting. Irma was loved by all who knew her. She was loving and considerate. Whether Gom was being a mom, grandmother, aunt, or friend she was completely dedicated. She cherished her time spent with the children in her family. Irma touched many lives with her kindness and will be missed by all. Funeral service Friday, May 4th at 9:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
